There was tremendous excitement throughout the school today as a number of chicks hatched from their eggs. We watched the eggs wobble and we heard the chirping from within the egg. It was amazing to watch them peak their beaks through the eggshell, finally breaking free!
After the chicks hatched they were allowed to dry off and fluff up in the incubator before removing them to a brooder. Newly hatched chicks can survive for up to 3 days on the yolk they absorb during the hatching process, but once you put them in the brooder you have to make sure there is at least water available and offer them food after a day or 2. Feed and water must be available at all times from the time they are out of the incubator.
Hopefully their peeping and noise will help encourage other chicks to hatch tomorrow!
