As part of the Ireland 2016 commemorative programme, the Department of Education and Skills provided time for schools to commemorate and reflect upon the events of 100 years ago.
Some of our events on Proclamation Day included song singing and musical instrumentals. We finished the celebrations with our flag raising ceremony, done by Tadhg Flynn and Bell Keane, and we sang the National Anthem. A major focus on Proclamation Day was the reading of our school’s ‘Proclamation for a New Generation’ written by the pupils in Ms Dowling’s 5th Class and read beautifully by Laura Cairns.
Thank you to Ms Dowling and class, Ms Shaughnessy, Mr Reade, the choir and the orchestra for their hard work and for making this event so special.
